Mystery Book Club Recap

Our Mystery Book Club met this past Wednesday, April 17th and shared some great reads with titles that featured either "Girl" or "Woman" in the title.

Here is a quick description of the books we talked about, plus the opinion of the person who read it:

After a child on a tour group in Chinatown finds a severed hand, Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles are called to the scene where the rest of the body is found on a nearby rooftop. They find monkey hair on the body and discover that this crime is connected to another crime from nineteen years ago when a murder-suicide in a Chinatown restaurant left five people dead. Their first suspect, a martial arts master who's connected to the massacre now seems to be the target of someone, or something, relentlessly evil. The person who read this one called it a real page-turner and said that she couldn't put it down. It's different from the show Rizzoli & Isles, but in a good way and recommends this book and series!
Aspiring novelist Stacey Kim is stunned by a black and white photo while visiting an art museum featuring a woman, photographed from behind, in a wedding dress holding a pistol behind her back. The Pulitzer Prize winning photo, shot by acclaimed photographer Kathy Moran, captures Stacey's interest and when she discovers the photographed woman's identity, she realizes that the woman is suspected of killing her husband. As Stacey delves deeper into the case, she finds everyone has a different opinion of Megan's culpability and must figure out a way to get the one person who knows the whole story - Kathy Moran - to tell her the truth.
The person who shared this novel hasn't finished it yet but looks forward to wrapping it up this week. It's a very interesting read that goes back and forth a bit but it's easy to follow!

When her mother is hospitalized, Evie Ferrante finds some strange things while going through her mother's house which is almost to the point of being condemned. She reconnects with Mina, their elderly and longtime neighbor and finds that Mina is facing her own struggles as Mina's nephew tries to persuade her to move to a senior care community. As Evie investigates her mother's actions, a darker story emerges of danger, deception, and madness that she discovers also involves Mina.
The person that read this title said highly recommends this one! There are twists and turns and it's not a predictable book which made it all the more interesting. This person looks forward to reading more by Hallie Ephron.

And if you want to read an interesting article about titles with "Girl" in it, check this one out!
