July kicked off Park & Recreation Month. We shared a poll asking at which outdoor space would YOU choose to read?
The beach and "no thanks- you're not getting me outside" were the most popular responses! What about you?
Pablo Neruda (1904-1973) was born on July 12 as Ricardo Eliecer NeftalĂ Reyes Basoalto in Chile. At the age of 20, he published Viente poemas de amor y una cancion desesperada (Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair), which made him a celebrity. He then gave up his studies to devote himself to poetry. Neruda also served as a Chilean diplomat to several countries and was later elected a senator in Chile. In 1971, Neruda received the Nobel Prize for Literature.
July 15 is National Give Something Away Day. This day encourages people to give back to those around you. Whether it’s to a significant other, close friend, family member, or a stranger, July 15th is an opportunity to put some good into the world. Further, gift-giving can impact our mental health in wonderful ways, too.

July 20th is National Moon Day, which marks the anniversary of the first time humans walked on the moon when in 1969, Apollo 11 carried astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to its surface.

Born on July 24, Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870) is a celebrated French author best known for his historical adventure novels, including 'The Three Musketeers' and 'The Count of Monte Cristo.' His works have been translated into more than 100 languages and adapted for numerous films.

July 26 - On this day in 1990, the American's with Disabilities Act (ADA) became law. The ADA prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in several areas, including employment, transportation, public accommodations, communications and access to state and local government' programs and services. It also established federal laws regarding service animals.
July 30 is the International Day of Friendship. The day was created by the UN with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.
"Through friendship — by accumulating bonds of camaraderie and developing strong ties of trust — we can contribute to the fundamental shifts that are urgently needed to achieve lasting stability, weave a safety net that will protect us all, and generate passion for a better world where all are united for the greater good (UN.org)"
