2019 Reading Challenges

Are you challenging yourself to read more books this year? Maybe read books outside your comfort zone? Or books only by women? Only by people of color?

Well if you need some ideas, here are some great reading challenges to check out!

La Quinta Library's Adult Reading Challenge - Yes, we have our own! We challenge you to read 24 different types of books. Check out the reading log and suggestions on this blog.

Book Riot's Read Harder Challenge - I absolutely adore Book Riot and their yearly reading challenge! It really pushes you to read genres/types of books you never even thought of and it's introduced me to so many great books.

Pop Sugar Reading Challenge 2019 - Click on the link to get a PDF copy of this fun reading challenge from Pop Sugar!

Reading Women Challenge 2019 - These awesome ladies host a podcast, a website and other social media accounts that are all about reading women. So as you can guess, their reading challenge requires you to read books just by women, but they've got a great variety so give it a try.

The Ultimate True Crime Book List - Love true crime? Check out this interesting list from Penguin Random House.

Bookish's 2019 Reading Challenge: 52 Ways to #KillYourTBR - Got a lot of books at home you need to get to? Check out this list from Bookish that will help you with those stacks.

There are so many other challenges you can do yourself! Like....

  • Read all of the Caldecott Medal Winners, the Newbery Award Winners or all of the books from any other literary awards!
  • Read one graphic novel a week - that'll be 52 graphic novels in a year!
  • Read books only by people of color
  • Read a book that is about or takes place in each of the fifty states. Or one from each country in the world.
  • Read a book for every letter of the alphabet.
  • Read a book in translation each month.
Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have great reading plans for 2019. If you ever need suggestions, stop by and ask us! We're always happy to help you find your next read.

Happy Reading!

Jade, Reference Librarian
